I have to admit, outside of deer season May is my favorite month. It just feels like winter is officially behind us, summer is right in front of us and we can start to really make plans for October and November. Of course, chasing turkeys is a good time and here in Indianapolis we have a little race on Memorial Day weekend that really should be on everyone’s bucket list. In addition to those things, it is also the perfect time to take some safety measures on your lease or property starting with checking your treestands. We have included a great article below that outlines and describes how and why you should be checking those straps, stands and seats before you hunt out of them this fall. Before the fields get planted and access gets tricky is the perfect time.
It’s also a time around here for us to ask ourselves what more can we do for our members? What can we provide for them that will make their experience with us better and more valuable? I told our team we would announce this in June, but hey if you have read this far, you deserve a little peak. Beginning in June we will be offering an (optional) Premium Membership with increased coverages to $2 million per occurrence. The upgrade will also include access to significant discounts on hunting gear, clothing, knives and more from over 60 of the top hunting companies in the country! We are still working on the program, but it will be ready to go in just a few short weeks.
Until next month, please be safe and remember those that gave everything so we could live freely!

Are You Pulling Your Tree Stand For Inspection?
You should be and hear's why! We are in the thick of spring and while you may be out turkey hunting you may also be thinking about your fall hunting season and how to improve your food plots, trail cams and most importantly your tree stands. Now is a great time to pull your tree stands down so that you can inspect and repair them if needed. Once it warms up, the thick woods and hot temps can make dragging your stands down treacherous. Then, once the farmers begin to sow seeds and get their crops in the ground, driving your truck right up to them becomes a pipe dream. You will wish this job had been done months ago…

Cash rent is what comes to mind when most people think of a lease. The agreed upon amount of cash is paid upfront, and the farmer assumes all risks and rewards. This is preferred by most farmers as they have more to gain from a profitable crop.
As the landowner, you don’t have to wonder how much money you’ll make from the lease over the course of the year like in a crop share. Cash rent is the most common type of farming lease agreement across the country and is generally the easiest lease to manage.
Leasing to Hunters
Another group to consider leasing your land to is hunters. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. You could lease your new land to farmers and hunters at the same time! The right group of hunters will be just as interested in improving your land’s habitat and wildlife populations as you are.
If you will allow them to, many hunters will want to help improve your property’s ability to house more game like deer, turkey, and small game. You may make it a part of your lease agreement that members could participate in habitat improvement projects like controlled burns, timber stand improvement, or food plot installations if you wanted to. Just make sure you are legally protected in all events.
